Before you start with Section C, take this moment to review Section B.
First, confirm that the customer has signed and dated the 4473. If they have not, ask them to do so before you continue reviewing their answers on the form.
Second, ask for the customer’s government-issued photo ID.
Third, while using their ID, start at the top of Section B and check each section to ensure that it has been completed, answered appropriately, and that there or no answers that prohibit the transfer from occurring. You are also checking to make sure that the information matches what is on their ID. This might sound silly, but don’t forget to look up at the customer to confirm that their picture matches their appearance.
Here are the problem areas to pay extra attention to:
- Their birthdate. Are they old enough to purchase the firearm(s)?
- They entered their County and NOT their Country
- They listed their middle name or “NMN”
- They answered all of question 21 correctly
