[Q&A] Can an IOI inspector take our 4473s off-site to review later?

Typically the inspections are conducted from start to finish on-site at your business activity location.  However, on rare occasions, the inspector may decide that it would be more efficient to remove the records from the premises for review.  You should allow them to do so under these conditions:

  1. You must obtain a receipt from the IOI inspector for the forms which are being taken off-site.
  2. You must retain this receipt in your records until all the forms have been returned.
  3. The receipt must include the date the forms are being removed, the total number of forms and the date they’re being taken off-site, the length of time they will remain off-site and the IOI inspectors information including name, job title and telephone number.
