[Q&A] For the “Manufacturer and/or Importer” heading, what information goes on the A&D book?

The heading “Manufacturer and/or Importer” was seemingly misnamed for a long time.  In 2014, the ATF modified it be “Manufacturer & Importer (if any)”.  The company names for the foreign manufacturer and the domestic importer have both been required in the A&D records since the regulations first came out, but the column title was misleading.

If a firearm is manufactured outside of the U.S. and then imported here, you must show the names for both the foreign manufacturer and the domestic importer on your A&D book.  This same information must also be engraved on the firearm, which is where you should always obtain the information for your records.  There is one possible exception to this but we strongly advise you to make sure the information on your A&D record identically matches up with the information on Section D of the Form 4473.
